Hello,
I own a 300CE,1990 with 170,000 km.
The problem is that the car is sudenly shuting down during the drieving w/o any warning. When that happens , every thing is sudenly shuting down with all indicator lighting up. It happens to me 3 time on the highway which fortunatly ended w/o accident. I have slided to the side and after 2-3 tries the motor has started and every thing was normal again.
I service my car in a garage every 10,000 km. I have already replace the two fuel pumps ,fuel filter and the ignition cylinder.
The garage can not find the problem.
Kindly can you advise what might be the probable cause?
Thank you for sharing your experties.

I'll echo that. Fuel pump relay. The problem often masks itself and gives a false positive result (you'd check, by cracking off the main fuel line and physically seeing fuel being pumped out) because they can go 'intermittent' before failing completely.

I'm surprised the garage cannot find a problem. They are normally resourceful enough to do this - after all, they could keep replacing more and more parts until it fixes it.

I am also surprised that they have not mentioned this relay (fuel pump relay), as most good indies, read the threads on this forum. but as you quote in KM, I am supposing you live outside Ireland or the UK (UK & Ireland (LOL))

After that(or even before) I would look at fuel additive for injectors (ie Redex).
That failing then I would look towards OVP relay fuse or OVP relay itself.

If your garage is unsure of where these relays are, usually they are near the battery. The Fuel pump relay is a double(AT also) relay and is bigger than the OVP one.

300s love distributor caps, if you have a 300E/CE/TE that konks out for no apparant reason while driving, often it's the dizzy cap.

I have now replaced the fuel pumps relay and hope that the problem will be solved.
Regarding the distributor cap it is new but I have requested that it will be checked. The outcome was that it is fine.
Thanks to everyone. :p
