Hi All,

First post here, have a problem with a new (2nd hand) van, had a look through the forum to try and find the answers but been unsuccessful.

I have just bought the above and the engine seems to be limited at 4K. It will not go above 75mph down or up hill.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated !!

Hi mate it could be that its a ex hire one they restrict the van not to go over 80mph it could be the problem.

The diesel engines will only rev to 4200rpm, that is standard even though the rev counter shows upto about 7k this is so the same display will do for the petrol engine.

The sprinter is electronicaly governed to 100mph as standard but this can be reset by the dealer to a few different speeds. from memory I think these are 65, 75 and 87mph. I guess anyone with the STAR diagnostics kit(not neccesarily MB) will be able to check it and reset to the 100mph:twisted:

If you have a panel van with the standard 1:4.111 rear axle ratio it will do 100mph but the chassis cabs usually have a lower 1:4.375 ratio which should run out of revs around 93mph. If you are pulling around a big luton body on a 311 you will only really see 90mph when going down the bigger hills (ask me how I know )

hi inky ,get yourself to an mb dealer[or someone with a STAR] they will easily be able to reprogramme your van to a speed not exceeding 161kmh[the germans prefer kmh] and expect to pay no more than an hours labourp.!
