Thinking about buying immaculate low mileage AMG 32Slk for sale at £17k. Obviously lost a lot of money from new price but not really sure where they are in the depreciation curve. I think it's the sort of car that will hit a bottom price (ie the time to buy!) and then stay there before (possibly) beginning to appreciate in value. Any ideas?

More info about mileage and year would help, also is it AMG in the engine department or just wheels and body kit.

IMO Appreciation only comes with rarity and a general feeling that this was the pinnacle. Think Lancia Delta Integrale. The SLK55 and the fact that they still make the SLK in big numbers makes any appreciation almost impossible IMO.
So - the price will continue to fall. By how much hinges on lots of factors. Generally depreciation comes in percentages so huge falls on new prices slowing as prices reduce. I'd say at 17k it's a way to go yet. Mercs tend to bottom out around 6-8k in my experience which is where spec, mileage and condition start to play an ever increasingly bigger role, but one thing is for sure, it's not an investment. It would be nice to own though :)

With appreciation (!) of fuel and associated costs, I'd say they will knock a fair amount of value off over the next, say, 10-15 years. The likelihood of the car being more desirable I'd say is very limited.

Hello

If its the SLK32 you only need to look at how the C32's are dropping and given they are 4 door maybe more popular.

Its a big engine, low mpg, high cost to run, insure, tax etc so its still going to drop a fair bit.

The new shape is out and some of them are already dropping a lot (there was a guy on the forum trying to flog a SLK350 on 5K miles for 20K !!)

I would think as above its going to get down to around 9K in a few years, I work on 3K loss a year but at 17K its still got a bit to go.

As mentioned millage and spec / year would be good.

this sort of thing?

Yes I understand all that. Very few cars are an investment. Unless your lucky its about how little you loose. Car is 03 plate with 35k miles in silver. Car is full AMG spec, very similar to but not the one that A210AMG has shown.

For example, currently have early P plate 230slk with history and 100k on the clock, but still a nice car. Bought last year for 6k. Cant see it getting a lot cheaper. Intention was to try it out and then maybe get a better one. Would like 32slk but would be uncomfortable with standing to loose a packet on it

Hello

Your p reg 230 has little to lose now, maybe £1000 a year.

The SLK32 @ £17K has a lot to lose (the value of your car now easy in two years)

why not go for a newer shape of what you have but the SLK320 ??

Ok not an AMG but a step closer, much cheaper (10K?)

Unfortunately I let my pristine low miles Integrale Evo go for peanuts a few years back. I will kick myself forever, virtually unreplaceable now :(!

That was me I part xed it for £20K (Marshalls) they sold it quick for £23950. You can be lucky and have someone that has the cash and wants to buy your car or you can play around with the dealers and get a rude awakening, MBs because they are expensive to begin with lose a lot in the first years they are no better than many other cars out there, so do not buy one if it is going to hurt come exchange time. Mine had 5931 miles on it. I bought 01 08 04 for just over £41K so it dropped around 6K a year, I will let you work out the £ per mile rate. Its only money, says he, sniffling into his tissue.

20% profit (roughly) on 'flipping' the car - not bad.
