I have a problem to which 3 different "specialists" have come up with 3 different diagnosis so I wondered if anyone could add any more or have had a similar problem.

I own a 1981 (W) 380 SLC, automatic.

The problem is probably best explained in person but at 3500 rrpm the engine misfires and loses power. The revs fall back down to 2800-3000 revs and although you can increase the power back to just under 3500rpm and you can continue to drive the car without any problem under 3500 rpm the engine will not let you over 3500 revs (at around 80mph).

This problem occurs after around say 15 minutes of driving on the motorway (i.e. when you can hit those revs) as prior to this the car will go to 4000-4500 revs but after 15 mins or so, maybe when the engine heats up, the problem occurs.

I wonder if you could suggest a course of action.

Thanks

Stuart
