380sl engine

hi there new to forum but just got a 1980 380sl that needs an engine has anyone got one or know of one or will a 380se fit please help will need other bits soon

just got the car was in a garage the owner to them the gearbox made a funny noise so they removed it and found the engine wouldnt turn over i havent looke at it yet only picked it up yesterday i run a garage we are bussy so would be easyer to replace the engine have been offered 420se auto would this fit

The fitting is not the problem, it the things like ECU and injection set ups that get hard if you do not have a complete donor car
Its much easier to get a 116 engine from a 126

can get a d reg 420se w126 fo £200 with good engine and box would that do the job

That should be OK as that uses the 116 engine as well, you will need to transfer the ECUs as well, but they should just plug in, so to speak

if i fit the engine will the 4 speed auto go as well insted of the 3 speed auto thats in the sl and would the propshaft still fit

380SL should have a four speed.
If it were me,I'd be looking for a 420SL for the wiring harness for the engine control systems.

well i have just got the 420se (£190 long mot) it drives very well so next weekend is the time to swap engines lots of work but will let you know how it goes

well its in and running i put the original inlet and auto box so just changed bare engine all fitted and runs like a dream now to get the body sorted

front wings rear vanance and the rubber on the bumpers

Many here now are choosing to insert new metal into the existing wings, much cheaper and easier

i bought new wings..3 piece rear valence..bumper rubbers all from eurocarparts wings £99 each 3 piece valence £160 very good easy fit
