I need a 3mm spacer for the front wheels (after market) of my W203 to clear a retro fitted AMG caliper.

Firstly, are they permissible to use?
Does anyone know of a company that will make a hub specific spacer of 3mm?
I know H&R and Eibach do 5mm...

If not I will sell off my shiny new wheels and go back to my old ones.
Would be a shame because they really look the business....

wouldnt 5mm be close enough? perhaps MB can suppl them? someone has mentioned about requiring hub centric spacers and a supplier, cant remember who though, sorry. as you will be aware, this will require different length wheelstuds, may affect your insurance and it also puts a little extra strain on the wheelbearings

Halfords do 3mm 4 and 5 stud spacer kits £13, got them on the rear with my AMG replicas as the bolts were hitting the rear shoes.

Kevin

Or get some wider ones and turn them to a hub centric profile as you go

Malcom/Kebo57 I have not used a lathe since College!

Rich j, God I know all about bolts being too long. It was put into my bolt kit by mistake, I had not noticed and sods law I fitted it to the rear. It was only 3mm longer! Caught the shoe spring and that lead to it destroying everything inside the drum...what a mess that made....put it this way, I now have no useable back plate to attach p/brake shoes to. I will have to replace the back plate and p/brake cable soon.

Anyway...Does TUV approved mean they are OK? link below....

I can give you the details for changing the back plate.

For reference the max amount of the bolt sticking out of the rear of the wheel when the bolt is in the hole is 12mm

Many do it, but not so many admit it, when I think back to some of the silly avoidable things that I have done I cringe  But I will do something again.

Its almost like holding a chisel or knife knowing that you are going to cut yourself and you do

For once I thought to turn the wheel just to make sure, never usually bother but something made me do it. Only on the rear and tbh it give that extra width as the offset is 35et bringing it down to 32et which is more in line with the wider wheel MB cars are meant to have from what im led to believe.

You will only need to remove the wheel carrier

Take down your address.

I don’t understand off sets :( My fronts are ET35 and sit about as sweet as I would want it with the arch. If I do fit these Eibach 3/5mm hub-centric spacers (which are £80 odd blooming quid btw!) it will sit proud 3/5mm of the arch. Not a situation I really want but I'm kind of committed to fitting my calipers now.
What width are your fronts? Wheel and tyre?
Oh and do you get this judder at high speed I hear about caused by non hubcetric spacers.

Cheers Rich.

No judder from anywhere but may be if I had them on the front, but 3mm is nothing tbh I would be more worried if I was using 5mm+ then I would buy hubcentric spacers.

Hi I don't like to see someone struggling you could buy the cheapest hub centric spacers (around 5mm thick) get them delivered to me I will face them up to whatever thickness you want post them back to you asap you fit em / try em if you like em pay me what you want.
Turning (MOD experimental) was my trade for 30 yrs.
Just thought you could buy the cheapest none hub centric & I can turn them into hub centric might be cheaper that way

Kevin

PS I'm of to bed I will catch tomorow

Kebo that is an amazing and generous offer, and I might just take up on it failing all else. I just have to do some more digging about the effects of a 3mm spacer. Playing with 3mm washers and the wheel today to measure up again, the wheel is still firmly held centre due to the length of the protrusion of the hub.

Jet Tech buddy, It is an option that is on stand by :)

As I said before Spacers are not ideal option but, I believe the C32AMG off set (front) is ET30 (pls correct me!), and no aftermarket wheels, that I have liked, are ET30. Other then genuine MB, AMG or Brabus, which would cost more then my car is worth.
If I can get away with 3mm spacer, and assess the car over a few thousand miles to be driving OK, then I'll stick with it.

My X-pac Capri broke the drive shaft at Lydden, (paddock bend) I lost the wheel into the gravel trap, shortly followed by the rest of the car. That was put down to the extra width, and using std drive shafts. I would like to believe that 3mm will hardly be noticeable!

Thanks for all the input.

Hi you say
"the wheel is still firmly held center due to the length of the protrusion of the hub."
in that case then you could go with the bog standard ebay none hub centric spacers they look to be about a £10.00 a pair.

But if you want hub centric they look to be around £50.00 + approx
I've looked in to these, drawings etc got the sizes apart from the outside diameter (which there seems to be three sizes see pics),

To save you messing I would make a set (two off) for £20.00 + genuine postage probably about £3.00 this is only a thought so theres no obligation

Kevin

On the ET the higher the number the further in they will sit

Kebo, thanks again buddy, I'll get in contact once I'm sure that I will use spacers.
I have been offered a set of std 3mm spacers to try out.
I'll get round to fitting soon.
They are made from Mag Alloy and weigh about the same as a £1 coin, I thought they were made from plastic when I picked them up.
