I am contacting you in hope of finding a very special car, maybe one of your members could possibly help me.

I am trying to locate a 1956 Mercedes 190SL reg number 410JGJ which my Grandfather Mr. John Hughes-Evans used to own for 30 years prior to him sadly passing away seven years ago. At the time of his death I was unable to raise funds to purchase the car off his estate and it was sold to a classic car enthusiast who I believe was from somewhere in Scotland.

My Grandfather and I spent many hours working on the car when time allowed us as my Grandmother suffered from Alzheimer's and required constant attention, this car was his only outlet and I believe it kept him going looking forward to the weekends where we would work on the car whilst my Mother looked after my Nana for a few very special hours.

As you can imagine, this car was extremely special to me and it holds many, many memories, sadly I am not in a situation where I could purchase the car back but I would love to know where it is now and possibly write to or even speak to it's current owner.

Thank you for your time

Regards

Shane Williams.

Thanks for the info, according to other sources it is currently insured so hopefully it will turn up somewhere, I would love to see the car again and to speak to the current owner if possible.

Try asking over on the Mercedes-Benz Club - they have a register of members' cars and most owners of older models are members of that club .

Which part of Scotland was the car located in when you knew it ? I know there are a few of these cars still in Scotland .

Good luck .

Oh , you could try Brian Gunney in Cardiff - he is the leading 190SL restoration specialist in the UK , and may know something of the car . Tel - 0292 052 2157 or 07710 077 605

Still looking....

Hi, it's been some time since I last posted this, still looking for the car, it would be a massive thing for me to find this car. When I lost my grandad ( or Grandy as he was known to us) when he passed I removed myself away, I couldn't bear to meet the new owner of his car when he collected it. I could never afford to buy it, I tried to off 'his estate' but was not able....it wouldn't have been drive able without me working with grandy on it to begin with! I broke my heart to be honest. I just want to know it's ok, sad maybe to some but this car means everything to me. Does anyone know where it is?
