Hi - Some of you may know me as the man with the knackered 380SL. Well, I am now also the proud owner of a 1972 350SL too which I have purchased in a state of mid-restoration. Most or the hard work has been done (bodywork excellent), but it is now a case of putting it back together & replace missing parts. It has been fitted with a 4.5 ltr engine from an early 450SL or SLC (number starts 117 982), and I've had it running with 'Easy start' down the air inlet. I am missing some linkages around the air inlet and was wondering if anyone had either a diagram or photograph so I can see what is missing please? The linkage up from the accelerator pedal is there ending with a 'ball', and this appears to need connecting to both the air intake butterfly linkage 'ball' and also another 'ball' which is connected to maybe the gearbox kickdown (?). Any diagrams/photos would be very welcome!

If possible, next time anyone has their air cleaner removed, would they mind taking a picture similar to the one attached but showing what is fitted to the balls ringed in red please? It's a 4.5 engine from a '73-'75 450SL/SLC.

Hi - I have still not managed to find any details of my missing control linkages despite visits to MB main dealers, MB indi specialists, and handing prints of my photo to anyone who looks remotely like an SL expert! It seems the control linkages differ and I need specific details for this early 450 engine.

Yes! I think it does! I'll study it closely later today to see which bits & need to buy. Thanks!

VIN number needed please!

Hi again - unfortunately the diagram is not correct for the 117 982 engine. I was wondering if anyone with an early 450SL (117 982 engine) could let me use their VIN number to enter into the KATANOR system to get the diagrams I need please? My car was originally a 350SL you see & the VIN number brings up the details for the 350 engine.

(ie on this website http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp)

Thanks - I can now look at details for the correct engine, however it is strange that I can't find any diagram which resembles what I have in my photo. I have actually looked through loads of the diagrams for other engines too and can't see anything similar. I have been focusing on the 'U' shaped part of my linkage which is fixed at one end & has a ball half way along.
