hello! thank you for the reply - when stopped at a traffic light or stop sign, as I try to accelerate when light turns green, the motor is quite sluggish -- slow response to acceleration with a feeling that motor will stall out. Any ideas?

my 380sl v8 was sluggish like yours when i first got it 5 yrs ago ..mechanic cured it by adjusting the timing

Find your self a good independant Merc specialist and get a service done, new plugs, filters, fresh oil etc, the distributor cap could possibly do with being replaced, also rotor arm, HT leads.
