hi can any one tell me why my 450 is heavy on fuel Mercedes tell me it should do about 20 m p c but i seem to only get about 8 its done 96000 miles runs well, i don't drive it to fast.look forward to any comments, thanks

I would have said that the cold start valve is U/S,, on my 123 it went down and was quite a common fault,,if the sparking plugs are black and sooty thats it

thank you Malcom i will remove a plug, i also lost my valve caps on my mgb roadster but they only took two ,,,,,,,,,,a cyclist i am sure

fuel problem on my 450 slc

hi i just removed a plug and found very little soot around the edge, it revs at about 9000 . i will take it to a garage to see if it is the cold start as i am not sure how to fix this problem, do you know how much it should cost me in Labour time thanks again

Short of a leak the fuel can only be burnt, and the cold start valve is the normal culprit.
Best place to go is a Bosch service center, ½ the MB price, and they made it in the first place
