5 Days out of warranty - HELP PLEASE

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum but am seeking some advice.

I have a 2011 E Class Estate that has Artico seats. I noticed five days after the three year warranty expired that there was a split in the front drivers seat. MB Birmingham have said that MB will contribute 50% to the full retail price cost of the repair (£400).

I feel badly treated given the split was probably there during the warranty period & not noticed - besides it must have been wearing during the warranty period. After taking 6 weeks to respond they have offered 50%.

Any wise ideas on how to get them to pay for the full amount please?

How far you get will depend on the condition of the rest of the car. If its high mileage with obviously worn seats then that's wear and tear and you are lucky to get anything.

If its low/average mileage with the rest of the car/seats in good condition then its clearly a manufacturing defect unless theres signs of you damaging it.

What condition is the rest of it in??

As above, if you have over 133000 miles and the seat is worn...tough. However, since you probably don't have that many miles...try harder. I say this because I have 133000 mile and my seats are like new.

After 72000 miles & 7 years my driver's seat isn't ...... the 'suede' bit in the middle is pulled like an old jumper

There are firms that will sow a piece in cheaper than that.

those artico seats rip by default, at least on every W212 i viewed they were ripped or just about to rip, it was so bad that I opted for leather,

love leather !

We replace a lot of these. My trim guy will replace the section with real leather which won't crease and will match perfectly. If you want his number let me know, he is mobile and in Birmingham area.

Thanks for the replies. Car has done 45k so normal mileage. Interior is in VGC. Rip is in seat base near where the main panel joins the side panel.

Im frustrated that MB wash their hands with it just 5 days out of warranty despite it not suddenly happening over night. They seem to accept if it was a week earlier they would cover under warranty.

They have suggested would also cover if last service was with them - and they don't take into account number of previous purchases from them. Bizarre!

Use some 2000 grit Wet and Dry on the alcantara section, will look like new again.

Use it dry by the way!
