500E/E500 w124 buyers advice

Hi all. Recently sold my E300 w124 after many years reliable service. Lovely quick car. Can't believe a car that quick would do 30mpg on a cruise! To replace it, thinking of buying a 500E/E500 w124. Looking to hear from people who have owned one or know all about them, good and bad points, what to look out for, what to pay etc. Oh, and where to find one!

Hi Dave,
Lucky you to be thinking about such a demon car. I saw one advertised in this months mercedes enthusiast mag. I also recall an article about the car in the may 2002 issue issue of the same mag.

Thanks Jim. Can certainly afford to buy one, not sure about affording to fuel it! Luckily, I've got a motorbike, so the hoped for 500 would not be the main machine!

Looked out the mag last night. The article about the E500 was actually in the April 2002 issue. Back issues are available from Mercedes Enthusiast web site.
