Just bought a 500E now that I am old enough to get insurance at less than a kings ransom and I'm now trying to piece together what parts of the car are from where as looking for parts online in the uk is proving difficult.

I gather brakes are from the 500SL and the engine is a slightly modified 119 from the same but what parts are standard W124 and what are from other models.

If anyone can give me an idea and/or point me towards a good resource of info i'd be greatful.

Thanks

tobyd.

500E huh? Lucky man.... that wasnt the one on ebay that sold last week for peanuts was it?

If it was you got a damn good deal.

Spare parts, now you have just hit on the achilles heel of this model I fear.

Many many parts are unique to this model and may take some hunting to find. Best bet would be to get hold of the parts CD (forgot its name now) and then you can just look up the part numbers yourself and get it right rather than your local parts guy being too lazy to get it right.

Once you have the part number, you can look it up here http://wwwsg.daimlerchrysler.com/Projects/wi/cda/etpl?ETNR=1244010302&from=query&etpl_lang=1

Thanks for the link.
It was the one that sold at a 'reasonable' price on ebay the other week. Not a bad old car at all with only a lack of service history to concern some (but I'm a buy on condition kind of guy and always pleased to take a risk - I see there is another 500e on ebay currently). Nice body condition, almost new matching tyres all round and a tear free interior were all good signs of fair condition.

I'll try grab a copy of that cd and i've just ordered the w124 e class bible.

Hopefully this will be largely accademic as I'm not expecting to need many replacement parts!!

Well worth the money but......

I suspect that the car has been in a frontal shunt.

The whole front end has been replaced with the new shape bonet, grill etc and yet the rear has been left alone - even to the extent of leaving the amber rear corners. Mis matched colour on the bumpers loook a little odd too. Who in their right mnd would only update half the car unless only one half had to be done??

Especially when you can finish the job for about £300

There was a discussion about the car over at MBClub. lemme find the thread.... (You probably need to register first) http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=8955&highlight=500e

Dont get too worried mind, I still think you got a bargain as you rarely find one for much less than £10k.
