I actually like this but is it the kiss of death come resale time? Was cloth a cost option or standard with leather a cost option?

Nice car, although I think the advertisement may be a bit of a "cut and paste" to some extent - I doubt if this car has "Rear electric windows" or a service indicator.

The clear front indicator lenses are an upgrade and did not appear until 1995 IIRC.

Hi,
I always believed the 129 SL was standard with leather and if you wanted cloth you paid extra strangely enough (this was also the case with 635 BMW's).
It does look very clean though, but as others the Ad is very inaccurate, as it says it has side airbags which i believe were,nt introduced till later models it does,nt look like it has a front passenger side air bag either.
I wonder if the 112mph speed restrictor has been removed (all Japanese cars are restricted).

Thats interesting Andy,, I have the 1995 price list here in front of me,, leather was standard on the 500 and 600 and cost £1053 for the 280 and 320 But I have hardly ever seen one in cloth, not good in an open car.

I always understood that it cost more to have cloth, and this is a 500 it probably did

The rear seat in cloth cost £927 and leather £1300

They are normally better equipped than our cars, the later japan cars had all wood consoles, the same as on the 600 here

99% of the Mercedes Benzes in Uganda come from Japan. Plenty of cars with elegance trims AND with cloth seats. Must be something about the weather that they don't like leather.

My friend's car;

Model: C 280 , C36 AMG
Interior: cloth black (401)
265:
- elimination of lettering elegance/sport/esprit
- omission of line logo elegance/sport/esprit/classic (с 01.02.1993)

The 265 option applies to ALL Japanese Mercs that I've seen. As Malcolm says, the Japanese cars are better equipped but they do love their cloth seats. My friend didn't even know that he had a C36...
