Does anybody know how to re-sync the key fobs on a 1992 500SL???? Both fobs have new batteries and the LED lights up on both. I have tried a number of the methods for re-sync listed on here for other models but it doesn't seem to work. Does anybody have a step by step guide? It is the single button type of fob with the key that flips round like a pen-knife and has the red and green LEDs in the door handles and boot. The car opens manually and runs well but i would like the remote locking to work. Any advice greatfully received. Thanks Chris.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
The L.E.D.'s in the the mirror replaced the boot ones in later models.
Aim the transmitter of the remote control at the reciever in the interior mirror and press transmitter button briefly twice.
Turn the key in the steering lock to position 2 within about 30 seconds.
The lock system is then operational.
Exact quote from handbook. (C230K 1997).
As yours has,nt got L.E.D.'s in the mirror try this procedure at both your door and boot.
You may have too do this several times, as it does,nt always work first time.
Hope this helps, get back if the problem persists.

So is the receiver in the interior mirror or on the doors and boot where the LEDs are on this year model? Thanks Chris.

Hi,
These fobs you have, they are for this specific car i suppose?
Because i have been told they cannot be re-programmed.
How come they both need re-programming?

Hi all,

Finally got them to work....They were the original fobs...The batteries failed in the everyday one and when I got the spare they were flat too. Thats why both didn't work when I tried new batteries.

How I got it to work>

I first removed the batteries and pressed the button a few times to discharge. Next put them back in. i put the key in the lock and held it in the lock position whilst the LED was on. I then pressed the button in quick succession. Romove the key and then pressed the button and it opened and has worked ever since!! Pretty much a comination of all the advice given....Hope this helps somebody else....

Thanks to all who posted.

Chris.
