Hi all

Bit of an odd one. Our car seems to fire the ESP on any tight turn. You can feel the backend slip and the ESP catch it. Even happens in bendy 30MPH turns (ie barely any throttle). Or joining/leaving roundabouts.

Tire tread looks okay as does pressures.

Other info; passed its MOT in dec. on winter tires. Car not used much.

Thoughts?

You might have a rotted ABS reluctor ring on one or other of the driveshafts. Commonly they become loose on the shaft and can catch and stop turning when there is a bit of gyroscopic effect on them. The esp sees it as the wheel is locking and starts to operate.

Thanks.

The car loses traction. So this is the ESP reacting to a loss of traction. Feels like driving on ice. With winter tires ?!?!?

With a defective reluctor your going to get odd behaviour as the car is getting false readings , you should really get it repaired asap

Easy way to test. Turn off esp and check.

If not, check for leaking brake lines! Had a few that drip brakf luid onto the tyres in corners (after brakes etc!) some rusty lines only leak very slightly m, especially rears.

Also check for fuel tank leaks etc.

Good idea. Thanks.

I thought it might be feul on the road as it was on the exit of a large roundabout the A27 dual carriageway. The camber changes slightly

If its just a one off, then probably the road. If its doing it a lot, then definitely check underneath.

Subframe from what I can see looks okay. Spent quite a bit on bushes in March so doubt its those.

Going to take it to a german specialist garage to check.

To complete my own post this issue went away. I can only assume some feul on the road or what ever was silently wrong fixed itself.

All good now!
