My 1990 560SECs Becker radio would not work this morning, the screen lights up orange but nothing else, no sound ,no station description and the cd changer does not work either. When I used to turn the ignition off the radio would automatically turn off and the ariel retract, not any more the radio stays luminated and the ariel wont retract. It wears the battery down over a period of time.
Its a Becker Mexico.
Help :(
Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Worth double checking the fuse first, in the fusebox. Sometime they have hairline cracks that are not visible at first.

Otherwise, pull the stereo out. You need to remove ashtray and you'll see two metal retaining clips under the stereo - push down on ech one and pull out stereo.

There is usually a fuse on the back of the stereo - that maybe bad. Or the earth is faulty.

The stereo display only illuminates with the parking lights so maybe there is a short somewhere.

Will check it out, may have to wait for daylight to check behind the radio.
Driving home from work tonight I noticed that the ariel has retracted and the radio off with just the ON button illuminated, so it looks like a faulty fuse or similar.
Thanks Talbir.

Found a loose connection at the back of the radio, must be 20 bullit type connectors back there, bit rough looking. Works fine now but I cant sellect the CD funtion anymore. When I press the M button nothing happens, press it again and CC comes up which is cassette and works fine(which I never used till now), press it again and your back to radio.
Any one know where my CD option has got to.? There is power to the changer.
Thanks again
Mike.
