Not yet, but I will and check the gaps again.

How did I measure the gap: 1. grab a spark plug, 2. place the vernier upper jaws between ground and centre electrode, 3. measure.
No big deal if you have some experiences with verniers.

But again, I will buy the feeler gauges to confirm my Mitutoyo vernier results.

Just following this thread in an educational way, but if you place the upper jaws of the verniers in that 1mm gap, how fine are the tips, mine are about 4mm each.
What am I missing, thanks..

Older verniers did have large tips/jaws that you needed to add on to what you've read off the scale. Newer verniers have tips/jaws that cross over to allow you to measure smaller sizes & direct from the scale

Thank you for the explanation, understand that (and been on google too). Been 20 years or so since I last used verniers.
Still have my trusty feeler gauges for this task if needed. Happy to trust plugs from the parts counter at MB.

I simply cannot get my head round anybody performing the task of fitting new spark plugs to their car which is likely to be their pride and joy, yet not bothering to take 1 minute of their time to check that the gap is correct.
It is absolutely the sensible thing to do, and any online guide on the subject will confirm this.
Yes if it is the correct plug for the engine it should come pre gapped, but this might not always be the case.
If you are doing the job at all then you might as well do it to the best of your ability.

so what if your 'pride & joy' has multi electrode plugs? .... you can't gap them as the earth electrodes are curved around the side of the centre electrode. And as above, these plugs were apparently less than 3 thou too big .... 2 different people could set the gap using feelers and be that far out.

how would you gap this plug?

I have never owned a car that has this type of factory fitted plugs.
What I said is based on sound logic...unless you are saying it is not?

I do get what you're saying,
The Vauxhall OE plugs for my Omega were just as above but only twins (though later cars used the quads)

The tips of the upper jaws are fine just enough to measure 1mm gap without problems.

Btw. today I checked the spark plugs with feeler gauge and it basically confirmed my digital vernier measurement and setup. No further adjustment needed.

Now time for easier job... to fit them :)
