I have removed the 6 cd changer from my wives 2003 c180 coupe and am trying to fit into my 2003 c200k. The wiring has to be disconnected at the back of the single cd / radio unit on the dash.

Please can anybody tell me how to remove the single cd radio fascia so that i can disconnect the 6 cd changer wiring. I cannot see any obvious slots at the side of the cd ./ radio fascia and have tried some remover tools down the side with no affect.

Regards

Ian

You need to remove the top air vent grille, the gear knob, the trim around the gear knob, the ash tray and the trim around the Audio 10. To do this, the instructions are here;

http://www.buellwinkle.com/Comand/COMAND install and removal WIS.pdf

These instructions are for COMAND but are the same for an audio 10.

Be careful with the tabs on the air vent grille as they break very easily. If you break them it is very difficult toget the trim off. I installed a comand this morning for a customer who had them broken and it wasnt easy!

The pin connections you need are;

c pin 5 CD changer power +
c pin 6 CD changer power -
c pin 4 D2B wake up

Plus of course the fibre connection.

Good luck.

Alfie,

Does this mean that I can retro fit a command system to my W203 C200K? If so, what sort of price am I looking at?

Have a little search on this forum and google. Or here http://www.sport-coupe.de/ and click on ANLEITUNGEN there you find pictures.

Also if you change the position of the Changer from Horizon / Vertical. You have to adjust the V and H settings on both sides of the Changer.

Thanks everyone - I have stripped the dash out only to find no prewiring. Options are to either remove wiring fromm wifes car (strip down dash and replace again ) or buy leads from MB.

Do the power connections come as a lead which simply plugs onto the back of the radio unit as the fibre optic lead does??

Yes and No. You need two kind of cables;

1 fibre what goes directly in the back of your radio head and the other side goes in the Changer. Orange colour.

2 power cable. It's a three wire cable with a small connector (Changer) on one side and an ISO connector on the other (Radio) side. The Radio one goes in the top socket BUT there is already an connector in with 2 wires! What you have to do is remove those 2 cables out that connector and place them in that NEW changer power cable so your new connector has 5 wires. Keep an eye on the colour code of those 2 wires (CANBUS) from the car.

There are some tools for this type of plugs to remove then. I couln't find them so I broke the connector open to remove those plugs.

Now whitch cables you need depent where you gone install that changer. If you got the MC 3010 you can install it the glove department. Then you need a short cables. But if you want to install the changer in the boot... well you need long ones and more work.

That's it.

Have fun,

PS. If you want to remove the cables from the other car you still need to remove the CANBUS wires from that ISO connector.

bitonw - thanks for the reply.

I'll leave the pleasure of the installation until next weekend as time is a bit short after work in the week, but I'll let you know.

I never thought it would be easy but apparently usa cars have the wiring already installed !!

Now my wifes c180 since i have removed the 6 cd there is a delay of a few seconds after she switches on the radio I think all the functions still work and evemn from the steering wheel.

Is this because I have removed the ''bus'' connection from the 6cd ?

I must admit there was no delay in operation prior to removing the 6cd

Any thoughts !

Well I did some tests with my Audio 30 APS / MC 3010 since there was a problem with the Changer when I got it from Germany by post.

- With all cables connected on the Radio head but no Changer connected there wasn't any delay. I drove a week like that when the Changer was on my bence for repair.
- With all cables connected on the Radio head but only the power cable connected (to test the Changer) to the Changer there wasn't any delay.
- With all cables connected on the Radio head but only the Fiber on the Changer there wasn't any delay but when I tried to switch between Radio / Nav / CD I wasn't able to switch from SW to FW. Only Radio / NAV was possible. I listen a lot to SW where I can receive a World Radio of my native country.

I must say that some times it takes some time to switch on the Radio but this was BEFORE I had any Cable / Changer connected. Most of the times I leave the Radio on and use the Ignition key to control the Radio ON / OFF.

But I had this some times with my Becker Mexico Pro MD years ago. So I can only tell you that there isn't a problem.
