Hi everyone,
Just returned from Southampton (visiting my Dad) which including a day out at Exbury Gardens and was a total of 627 miles and my car is showing half way between the 1/4 and the mark below that..
The reserve light has NOT yet lit up !!
The average MPG is showing 51.5mpg..

Remember my car is a C270 CDI with Auto transmission..

I used to own a BMW 330D with 5 speed Manual gearbox and that only did 46mpg on the same run..

I have to say I am very, very pleased that its so good on fuel..
I am too tired to Brim the tank now, but I shall do it first thing in the morning (My local garage is about 1 mile away).. Then I shall know the "REAL" mpg figure..
Whatever the real figure turns out to be I think you will agree its a damned good result

Disqualified driver
The 270cdi I suspect may be the most frugal of the 203's due to its higher torque (so lower engine loading than on a 220cdi) but without the extra capacity and clyinder that blights the frugalness of a 320cdi.

The 270cdi is also EU3 which makes it more economical and lower CO2 and the expense of greater NOx and particulate emissions.

hi simon, i find this fantastic, do you drive at 60 mph and use the accelerator very gently. i have a e300 td 7 seat. est, and the best mpg ever was 36 mpg, long journey, circa 60 mph.my preferred alternative when driving from glasgow to preston i used to stick it on a "oner" on cruise control and get 30 mpg.at the end of the day fuel economy is only important if you are doing a high anual mileage. if i can carry 6 people with luggage in comfort and safety four or five times a year, then mpg is not going to bother me. what does bother me is the fact, which is becomming more obvious every year is that the high speed , quite safe cruising will soon come to an end. the "average speed" cameras are moving in and the bumper to bumper 70 mph convoys are iminent.technology in speed cameras and massive overcrowding / congestion will ruin car travel in the next five to ten years. herbiemercman.

Hi everyone..
It was no good.. I could not stay inside and wait till tomorrow..
I have what may be a big surprise for some of you..
The Cars computer is EXTREMELY accurate!!

Here is my proof.
Yesterday before setting off to Southampton I brimmed the tank at the garage I ALWAYS use thereby ridding any fuel station discrepancies..
Tonight (after a bit of a night time drive to test out the new Phillips Extreme bulbs) I re-brimmed the tank..
I put in 56.49 litres which is 12.358 gallons.
My total trip distance was 642 miles (and still no reserve warning light)..
That makes 51.950 mpg !!!

HERBIEMERCMAN..I can truthfully say with my hand on my heart that I kept with the general flow of the traffic..Generally I was doing 70 - 75mph most of the time..
Coming back home there was a few places where I errrr was doing 85 + because literally everyone else was.. To be honest I just wanted to get the jopurney over with so I really wasnt in "drive frugally" mode..
I find that southerners tend to drive faster on the motorways than we do in Lancashire..

Another point to consider was the fact that around the Birmingham and Manchester area there was a lot of tailbacks and standing traffic due to it being the Friday evening rush hour..
I got home around 7.45 tonight..
Last week whilst using the car for work in slow moving (20 - 35mph traffic) I was typically seeing 38mpg.
It shows where these cars are really strong is on a long run where she can stretch her legs.
Over all I really am very pleased with her and could not ask for more.

As you did not post yesterday after having the new comand I was worried that you had got lost.

By the way when you have selected your destination on the SAT NAV always look at the map to see where she wants to take you before you set off

very pleased to hear that such a big engine can be so economical

Hi Malcom..
Bad news with regards to the Comand fitting..
I got a text message the night before I was due to set off for Southampton from Alfie saying he had tested the 2 Comand units he had in stock and found them faulty..
In my original e-mail from him I was told I had the option of having a new Comand unit fitted..
In desperation I suggested that the new one was fitted but he did not respond to this. He offered to fit one next week but I wont be making a 250 mile trip again anytime soon so I shall give up on Comand.

I have to be honest and say I was very, very disapointed in this as I had heard so many good things in the past.
I cancelled my order and have decided I will stick with my old TomTom..
For me.. When things go wrong and fate jumps in to spoil your day, I feel its best to go with the flow and accept that sometimes things are just not meant to be..
Its a pity because I was so looking forwards to having this sysyem fitted to my car....
It was a disapointing trip overall, to say the least.

If so I was in contact with him originally. But unfortunately I cancelled him in order to go with Alfie..
I think this is commonly known as S*ds Law !!

All that apart, thanks for all your help with my various questions etc.
