There has been so much confusion recently with 63 AMG engines and remapping. Below is a short guide on methods and best practices from a technical perspective.

Engine :6.2
Management / ECU : ME9.7
Communication: Write ONLY (1 way DATA ONLY by OBD) 2 way by BDM

Now taking a look at other tuners in our industry almost all claim to be able to provide a fully custom remap for the 6.2 V8 however this is a little misleading.

1. 80% are generic / poor flashes due to the expected gains (from our research)

2. Every tune made by OBD port has no BACK UP of your ORI/Stock remap/Software

3. Most maps are missing from preset driver files (limited scope for development and power output)

At GAD as you will probably already be aware we ONLY develop bespoke software/remaps. This is to ensure our clients receive exactly what is required from the remap. With generic software this is simply not possible due to set limitations and rules that apply to generic remapping.

63 AMG engines and remapping - Methods

For the safest means of communication and a true complete clone incase of an error the ECU (ME9.7) MUST be programmed by BDM (background debugging module) in short this method clones the ECU data and bypasses the vehicles Can Bus system to avoid potential data and communication loss. So if someone plugs into your 63 VIA OBD please ensure that they have a plan B if in the unlikely event the worst should happen.

63 AMG power after a remap

Now without giving any secrets away we have produced 71.04 BHP extra from the C class c63 AMG this vehicle was 100% stock and a NON performance pack edition. The main limitations are throttle maps in this ECU tuned correctly you will almost certainly have a new car... Remember the SLS is the same basic platform here running much more power in a stock form.

Agreed the Best way to Read the ECU is Via BDM.

If a Tuner does Map you car via OBD then that will work Fine as long as they have the ori file on the system with the HW and SW number to match your car.

We have tuned cars both ways without any problems. Always try and get a Dyno read before and after you tune your cars as this can show the power gains.

Always remember all cars are different so do not expect the same results on each and every car.

We do agree to some extent here 90% of OBD programming will be safe here BUT as good practice incase the OBD communication becomes corrupt it is advised to BDM every time. In the instance you ONLY have a stock OBD read will encounter issues unless read by BDM.

We are advising potential remap seekers of this as we have had to sort issues our on behalf of other tuners.
