Hi All,

I have Jeep GC 2.7 CRD. The engine (OM647) is similar to the ML270 and the autobox (W5A580) is similar to the 722.6 box. The shifter is a standard auto shifter.

I am struggling to move the shifter into the Park position. This happened frequently on the first daily run in which the gearbox shifted to 5th gear. The symptoms are now more regular even when the engine and gearbox is warm.

I think it may the shifter cable adjustment, but this normally makes it difficult to move out of park.

Any advice on where to start checking will be appreciated.

Hello, sorry I do not know much about your car and have very little on it.

Could you pop up the first 6 VIN numbers and I will see if I have any info

I don,t think it will appear in the Russian site Malc, as the O/P's vehicle only uses a MB engine & Gearbox, not a chassis but if you look under a ML class 270CDI, i think this was the one used.
I knew about the Crossfire using a 320 CLK running gear, did,nt realise there were any other main stream vehicles using MB engines.
Regarding to your problem,
Mercedes using this box were allegedly sealed for life, and were not supplied with a dip stick, but only an empty dipstick tube which had a plastic cap/seal fitted. You could try a gearbox filter and fluid change as they seem to respond very well, and can eliminate some faults, if you do this it may be worth looking at the condition of the wiring loom to the gearbox as it can be subject oil contamination (i,m not very familiar with this fault i,m sure Malc can elaborate on this).

Thanks Andy, not on WIS either, that explains why.

I will print off for him a standard ML set up floor shift paper

I am not doing very well at finding this one.

I may have to settle for giving you a car one with the 647

is it in this list please

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb0.asp?TP=2

I hope this helps...

The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD (WG series) was built in Steyer, Austria. This vehicle mainly exported to Europe, Africa and Australia.

The gearbox in question is also called the NAG1 and is used on the MB Sprinter.

Thank you for everybodies effort thus far.
