'84 500SEC Engine Fax always on! Help!

'84 500SEC Engine Fan always on! Help!

Hi all,

A few months ago when I turned the car off the engine fan remain on. I disconnected the battery and then removed each relay in the fuse box and clean the connectors before replacing. When the reconnected the battery the fan had gone off.

Since then (not 100% if exactly since then but presuming so) as soon as the key is in position 2 the fan comes on and remains on constantly while driving.

Can someone please recommend a solution??

I'm a complete novice by the way so there's no such thing as too much detail!

Excuse my ignorance but how can I check/ fix this?

Swap it with another relay of the same spec.
If the fan relay is stuck and its replacement isn't, the fan won't come on, but whichever device is controlled by the other relay will.
Just an idea...

I'm with Malcolm, make sure you buy a new or check the coolant temperature sensor too as that can cause the fan to stick on.
