85 500Sl Speedo stopped working

Had the i/c out yesterday to change yet another warning lamp. When Iwent to fill up later on, I noticed speedo not working. There is a pronounced kink in the cable which leads to the back of it, but I can't test it with the steering wheel off and the car stationary.
Any ideas greatly appreciated. All other bits working fine.

still not working

It's definitely an electronic speedo. I'v just twinned about a foot of 5 amp to the speedo from further up the sensor feed cable, and still no result. Any one know where the sensor itself sits, as I suppose that'll be on my hit list of things to check.
