i have just purchased a 91 W140 500se with 129k miles on her.
its my first MB, and as it has sketchy service history have decided to get it serviced asap.

can anyone recommend an independant garage/mechanic within 50 miles or so of Abergavenny? (hereford/bristol/cardiff/w.midlands perhaps?)

also, as hard as i have tried, i cannot find any technical info in the owners manual for consumable specs - ie engine/gearbox oil, filters, plugs, coolant etc
- anyone help?

lastly, where do i source the above consumables and a workshop manual should i decide to service myself?

sorry for being a dumbass, but when i try and find info on net for my car it seems that only the w126 500se or w140 s500 are catered for!

any help appreciated!

For service parts buy from Mercedes, some parts like distributor caps will be expensive but for smooth running and no hassles allways get geniune parts.

If you need parts generally speak to Carl www.w140.co.uk he breaks the W140 s class and has many many parts in stock.

You might get a hand book from Carl also, this will give you fluid levels and fluid specs.

Once you have rung one and asked how much, post it up and we can give our views

UPDATE

have had the old girl serviced today by Rob Jones in Hereford.

fantastic service, quick and v.friendly. He was all excited at seeing an old w140 rather than a newy!

He took time to talk me through the checks he'd made, and what needed attention. Could have ate off his workshop floor, pristine from top to bottom and he obviously has a passion as well as a technical knowledge for MB, especially the older models.

Oil/filter change + thorough check up top to bottom = £160 all in.

Found slight oil leak from rocker gaskets and one belt starting to crack, going back next week to have sorted, but apart from that he couldnt fault her.
Quoted 2 hrs labour+parts for this.

thanks for the recommendation Malcolm!
