94 C180 Remote problem

Hi,

have just bought a 94 C180 Esprit, and am having trouble getting the remote fob to work, have looked in the owner's manual, but it only shows a different type of fob, mine is the seperate square remote fob, with two buttons, a slide switch on the side and a small led. When the buttons are pressed the LED lights up red, but nothing happens. Have tried the re-synchronisation procedure, but to no avail.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?

Your's sounds like an after market alarm. The factory remote locking is a square box with 1 button and an integral chrome flick out key.

UK MB Dealer fitted scorpion alarm, prior to the standard red/green lamp system

Try a new battery in the fob, the red lamp may still work, but there is not enough juice to send a signal, also make sure the slider is either up or down, not halfway as this stops it working.

Reset procedure for this system is simply to hold the l/hand button down for an extended time (30 seconds should do it) while nearby the car - dont worry if the red led goes out halfway through, keep holding it. next time you try it it should work (but try the battery first)
