So, I took the chrome cover off the door slam, and had a look in there to see what I could see, see, see.....

I found a loose wire, with a multi-connector on it, just dangling. I'm wondering, as the car has had some paintwork on th is door done, if someone forgot to plug it back in? This is the conector, and the cable as it looked when I hoiked it out:

Am I wrong? Is the connector for something else? Nothing else in the door in non functional, so I reckon allI need to do is reconect it. Any ideas how I gain access to the handle and LED array?

Cheers!

Hi,
If its the same as mine (w202) there is a small allan key behind the door rubber adjacent to the door handle.
Hope this helps.

Cheers Andy,

Ooops, I should have said, it is a W124, not a W20X. I noted the allen key under a blanking plug in the door, but how do you get the LED array out or check the wiring? Do you have to remove the door card?

Thanks TV. Not sure which part on those blow ups, is the loom that connects to the LED sensor on the handle though...

Also, rather unhelpfully, the factory manual does not tell you how to access the back of the sensor assy to get it out of the door!

It just says, "press out of catch on door panel and remove".... I could see no way of getting my adult sized hand into the door to push it out from the inside. I don't fancy trying to pry it out from the outside either.... Screwdriver down the door side through the paint anyone?

(

Has anyone actually done this job, or got experience of it they can pass on?

104 and 105 in the link do seem to have round connector, as the plug on you car.

Yes someone has done this to replace an LED

It is fixed!

1. Remoce the 3 screws holding the chromed cover on the slam of the door.
2. Remove the blanking plug in the slam covering the allen head grub screw.
3. 3mm allen key on the grub, and unwind it whilst jiggling the LED sensor array from the outside.
4. Remove the LED sensor complete with its wiring "tail".
5. Pull out the socket and its loom from inside the door.
6. Feed the loom with socket out of the aperture in the door where the LED fits.
7. Connect the LED sensor plug, to the loom you just fed out the hole. Test with remote key to make sure it works BEFORE refitting.
8. Tie wrap the loom to the door internal to avoid it snagging as the window is wound down.
9. Push LED sensor array back in door aperture. You might have to pull the door handle out to get it back in.
10. Replace the chrome plate.
11. Jump about the drive and shout " I AM THE GOD OF CAR MAINTAINENCE ".
12. Come in for your dinner after SWMBO shouts at you to grow up....
