I have just had a new Throttle Body/Potentiometer fiited to my E300TD saloon as the throttle was sticking and the ecu flagged it when it was read. However it is still carrys on accelerating when over 3500 rpm. My mechanic has said it could be very expensive? Maybe the auction for this one?

Get MB or other decent garage with the right kit, to carry out a proper full diagnostic before you condemn the car to the lottery of the auctions.
It may turn out to be something fairly minor, but either way at least you'll know.

It doesnt have a throttle flap.
What did he replace then?
Probably the EGR?
I would be looking at the device that the throttle cable attaches to. Throttle potentiometer.
