Hi,

My friend had his beloved 1999 Vito 110 stolen on Monday night when his house was burgled and the keys stolen from the house. Luckily enough, it has turned up today but without the stolen key. He now needs to replace all door locks and the ignition barrel to stop the tea-leaves from taking her again in the future....
Can anybody recommend anywhere that's reasonably priced for replacement barrels, in the UK or Germany? I have a feelng the won't be cheap from MB.

Thanks in advance for any tips/experiences

Jp

I would imagine only available from MB. Does his insurance not cover the cost of replacement locks ? most do.

I think that new keys must be bought, and I think that MB have the means to de activate any keys out and about, do have a word with your dealer

The insurance does cover the locks, but you know what it's like when you've paid the excess and lost your NCB, its never worth claiming for.

tv - The keys on this model are purely mechanical so can't go down the deactivation route - but thanks for the reply.

Then I should be able to find the info for you on how to change them

Having received some advice from MB, it appears you were correct; the key is electronic afterall. I thought that only the mk2 vitos had these!

MB quoted £350 for new locks and reprogramming of ignition keys. Not cheap, so we're thinking the cheapest way forward is to change the door locks for some second hand ones from a breakers and buy a decent steering lock.

Advice on changing door barrels would still be welcome though!

Paul why not have those locks that shoot into the door pillars, many high risk vans have them
