Plz help i've had this strange noise coming from the engine in front of the drivers side well so i though it was, turned out it is the butterfly valve in the throttle body or below it. I took off all the pipes from the air filter to the throttle body started the car and revs it up and she screams i've cleans it hell it looks like its new again and its still screams, it only happens when the butterfly valve is open 1/4 of an inch or so and the revs are up about 3000. Any Ideas lads its driving me nuts.

Cheers
Mick

Use a long wooden handled screwdriver as a stethoscope, put the handle to your ear and you can maybe pin point it with the blade

It can be hard to pin point noises, by using this home made stethoscope it does help to pin point more exactly where the noise is, or use a bit of hose pipe

ah ok sorry malcom the noise seems to be coming out of the butterfly valve, it seems to be the right hand side ( as you look in from the front of the engine bay) the valve rotates and the air screams on the side that has rotated down. ( not sure if that will help) Is there anything below the valve that could be making noise os does it simply control that amount of air that flows to the engine.

OK I am with you now. Did you take the top off to clean it, there is very little inside them, could there be something resonating inside

The scream is from the little motor attached to the side of the throttle flap.
