9g box service intervals

Yes, I know we've covered this many times before but even the staff at Mercedes Southampton can't agree.

When I booked the service, I specifically asked about the auto-box oil change and, after 10 minutes of investigation, the booking desk said yes it is due now (car just coming up to 5 years and 47k miles). Fine, I thought, all covered by my service plan.

Today, I dropped the car off and when I went to collect it they said the auto-box change wasn’t due, according to their system which is, apparently, more accurate than the booking desk system. They said it had been referred to their warranty officer who had confirmed this.

I checked ESS again, when I got home, and this shows the following:

Service 20 every 62,000 miles / 5 years

Automatic transmission: Change oil and oil filter - Transmission 724.2

Service 20 every 77,500 miles / 5 years

Automatic transmission: Change oil and oil filter (incl. Transfer case with Code M005 - 4MATIC)

Transmission 725.0 except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) up to model year 2016

Transmission 725.0 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) up to model year 2016

This is very similar to the service sheet the dealer gave me and seems to imply that the process is only recommended for cars up to 2016. Does that mean that 2017 on are never due to be serviced? If so, I may well get MBS to do it soon anyway.

I know everyone has views on this but does anyone have a specific answer to this? My engine is a 276 823 and gearbox 725 048

I'll check my details tomorrow, but mb just did mine last week. One thing they did say though , it would have to be booked in with my service , otherwise it would have to be next year . I was a bit annoyed myself tbh ,because the service plan office text you with what's going to be done , yet the service centre have their own agenda .

I think it's 5 years / 62,000 as apposed to a 7g+ like interval of 5 years / 77,500 as a 9g will be changing gear more often .

9g and 7g+ share the same intervals. The exception to cars upto 2016 is the code m005 which means 4 matic . Which yours is ,so that rule doesn't count.

When initially looking for a high spec S205 for my father we often came about those who never had a ATF service when they clearly should of .

Crying shame when the boxes are ticked with real leather seats , heads up display and a panoramic sunroof

A 17 Plate S205 with 9g had a Mercedes print out recommendation of ATF change around 60k but it never received it even after 75K .

724.2 is 7 speed transmission, 62000 or 5 years.

9g is 725. 77,500 or 5 years.

Easy for dealers to ignore the designated ATF service on service plans it is an expensive item I wouldn’t take one out for this reason.
My 7 speed box has been serviced twice in its 11 year 80k life and I paid for it so have proof it was done

It's possible the ess is not flagging yours up yet as it's not 5 years old . My dealer hououred mine ,so why not yours ??

I think I’ve sorted this. Took some time to research similar threads and there was one last year where the opinion was that it was only 77,000 miles and not 5 years. This ties up with what the girls at Mercedes were telling me yesterday. I put 77k in ESS and got this which indeed shows 77,000 for car after 2017.

I may well get MBS to do it now along with the propshaft work they also noted yesterday.

Think I'll take a peek at my sump ,just to check it's new . I know my 2016 e350 with 9g flagged up B7 just before it's 5th birthday so you may be correct about the mileage . Well just have to wait n see . My glc is 5 on new year's eve ,so I'd expect to see a dash message in November.

What was the basic cost of these services? I’m about to get mine booked it with my garage, never had an auto before hence never needing ATF and gearbox servicing. I’m going to get them both done at the same time for piece of mind

An independent will charge circa £300 for a 7 speed box I think the 9 speed is circa £400

Well worth doing MB auto boxes will do big miles properly serviced my inclination is a service every 40k miles if you intend to keep the car

I had my 9G 2016 shooting brake done as a stand alone job and the Indy couldn't update the DSR as apparently it needs to be done as part of a service
