A/C always blowing hot Air - W208

Dear All,

I have a 1999 CLK 230k (automatic climate control). The problem is that no matter what position the blower is in (temp on min, fan on high or low and ECO button pushed in or out) only hot air comes out. I have had the vehilce re-gassed, but the problem persists.
I have also checked the fuses related to both the Automatic Climate control and Blower (AC) and these are OK.

Can any one advise me on this issue?

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Sanjiv

Firstly the EC button is the air con off and it should not be in that position. try it.

Surprising how many people get caught out with the EC button - light on = A/C off.
Whoever recharged your system should be able to at least diagnose your problem - there are too many 'gassit & scarpers' about.
You can get 'live data' from your climate control panel without diagnostic equipment. This might help to solve your problem, PM me for details at tech@CarAircon.co.uk

Is there a reason the EC Button will remain lit? My EC button will not turn off, thus my AC will not turn on. Any advice?

It is probably out of gas or there is a faulty sensoe somewhere. Try an a/c specialist.

For models 129,140, 202, 210, 215, 220, 463 Up to the 15-08-99

If you have the EC light on all of the time on the above cars, the cure is to replace the temperature sensor.

This sensor for the refrigerant leaks moisture so that incorrect values are transfered to the control module and air con is turned off.

Replace sensor.

They can recover the gas, so it should not be too bad, just a few toes of fingers

As a rough guide between ~£60 for a vac test and regas to ~£300 for a new condenser. All at AC specialist prices, I wouldn't go near a main dealer for AC work unless it was under warranty.

I have a C200K 2001. For the past two month the efficiencey of the A/C is getting less and less and now only hot air comes out if it.
I susspect that the gas has leaked away. I was looking at halford and they sell "R-134a Air Conditioning Refrigerant & Oil".
Would that be compatable with my car? Also apart from low gas what else can cause the above problem?
Thanks

Same happened to me, over time. I had a re-gas recently at a main dealer for under £100. That's a re-gas, not to be confused with a recharge, which only tops up the pressure - pointless if you ask me. A re-gas will remove all remaining old gas, check pressure of system, add dye and new gas. The dye helps find any future leak (if you ever get one).

Out of interest, how would someone change their own gas using the Halford's kit? Surely specialist equipment in required.
