1995 500 SL. When switching to defrost mode takes 5 minutes or longer to rereoute to dash vents. Quoted $1190.00 to repair. Is there any easy way to repair this yourself? I have been told it is more than likely a loose vacuum line. Thanks,

Many things on mercs are vacuum operated. If your vents are switching, but taking a long time, it may well be a faulty or broken vacuum connection. Only problem is that you may have to dismantle a lot of the dash to get to the parts and this is probably where most of the £1190 quoted to you comes from. You will need to get a service manual or find out where the relevant parts are located and how to get to them.

It's down to poor build quality, it's as simple as that. That horendous price you just quoted is the sad price of Merc ownership I'm afraid.
