A-class 55plate cuts out on idle?

Hi a friend at work has a 55plate A-class automatic.

Occasionally the car will cut out, often when idle or when moving in slow traffic and you press accelerator to move it cuts out.
It idles at 700rpm and he wonders if that is low..?

There was a updated electrical plate for the gearbox to cure this, Not cheap tho!
