hi, iv'e just bought an S reg A160 Elegance in silver with 44k on the clock and am very happy with it. paid £6700 from a used car dealer. i tested a few A140's and thought they were nice but it was when i drove the 160 i realised the difference in engine power. the 140 is a bit gutless. go for the elegance with all the nice extra's on like aircon, ASR,ESP AND 4 X electric windows. also go for the manual for the driver involvement. auto is a depreciation night mare. i know 2 nice x-reg silver A140 Elegance in silver for sale privately in corby and another in peterborough both for £7300ish. both cars are very tidy with full mbsh. pm me if you want the details.

Hi mate,

The diesels are starting to come down in price nicely now. They are much more powerful and economical than any others. I would personally go for a higher mileage diesel than a standard petrol.
Auto is a necessary if you intend to ever sell the car again! Dont go for white, and try and get elegance or avantgarde, lots of nice little bits and pieces.
Obviously makesure Full MB history and makesure its not an ex easycar!

Before buying one you should know that if you pick the wrong one you will regret it all your life. Regardless of the year, or engine or trim you could end up with pbs left right centre. Although the post 2001 look better and is equiped.

My 2 years old A170 has been giving me grief since I bought it in June, broke down once, resued twice. One more time and it is for sell. I am not buying an A class ever again.

Watch out

I can understand where Class C is kinda of coming from........we changed my wife's 1999 A170 last year for a one year old facelift A190, after running the A170 for three years. The newer car is significantly better made than the older car, which gave us quite a lot of grief and must have been in for at least 6 warranty claims during its time with us. The interior build quality on the older car was very poor, with lots of rattles etc etc.

So, you may ask, why buy another.......well the concept is great, the versatility is fantastic and the kids love it, as they can see out of it.

Although I do not think a facelift car will be in your budget, it would make sense to try and spend a little more and get a better built younger model.

Cheers
