A class dash lights BAS / ESP have come on

Hi all
I have a 2002 A class LWB 170 turbo diesel (168) fully automatic and the BAS / ESP light has just come on the dash.
According to the manual if the BAS light comes on the cars engine will go into safe mode and not allow you to rev it, which is what has happened.
I know what these lights mean, but what could be causing them to come on?
Can anyone help me shed any light on this please.

You will need a computer put on it for 100% diagnosis, but i would imagine it is either a speed sensor or the steering angle sensor.
