had a quick look thru the forum but couldn't find one quite like this
I have 2000(w) A160 and it pulls to the left possibly due to hitting a pothole or maybe not.
I took it to my local ATS who said the tracking was about 2 degrees out but not enough to cause that kind of problem but they tracked it anyway. The guy also said it could be tyres and checked the pressures which he appears to have got wrong as they not the same as the fuel flap table. He also swapped the 2 front wheels over left on right and vice versa "as the treads may be pulling" and now behold it pulls to the right. So they tracked it again and put the right front on the right rear and rear on the front and still it pulls to the right. Now he says the radius arm bushes are worn but not much and and it's dangerous to drive.
They don't seem to be able to cure it or don't know how to cure it.
How can they move the problem from one side to the other and then say the tracking wasn't the problem it's something else which they haven't touched

there is no point in trying to track with any faulty component in the system.

you could jack it one side at a time, with a wheel off the ground try rocking the wheel, there should not be any free play or clonking noises.

OK they have changed the tracking, and that will change the steering characteristics. The guys that did the tracking do not sound to good to me.
What system did they use to track it on.

By changing the tracking toe in it could be made pull to the side of the road with a biggest contour.

Most cars nowadays seem to have a tendency to pull slightly to the left, probably due in part to the camber of roads.

I think Malcolm is right the tyre people seem to be guessing at the problem and not solving it. The logical solution is to take a look at the wear across the tyres re tracking, If the wear across the tread is even it may be that the particular brand of tyre you are using is more susceptable to tramming or camber change than others.

I would certainly have the suspension and steering checked out for wear or play by somebody you know to be reputable, if OK, to solve your present predicament you will now need another 4 wheel optical check for alignmment to get back to the MB settings, this may be better performed by a good Indie.

Hope this helps.

It does a little, on saturday I moved all the wheels back to where they started from and behold it now pulls to the left again so at least we are now back where we started from I'm going to get rear end checked this week and possibly get a couple of new front tyres as well original michelins down to about 4mm tread depth but worn on outside shoulders maybe one more than the other if the trackings out. I'll let yoiu know how we get on

Sorted it
Like I said didn't look too worn but when the old michelins came off the the outside shoulders had got stiffness at all practically down to the canvas ,but still
4mm of tread across the middle. although they were the original tyres and had done 45,000 miles so can't be bad
thanks for the advice though
