Hi,

Have just had my A class gearbox repaired after the bearings were all knackered and needed replacing. Anyway after getting the car back form the transmission specialists (£1100 to repair) and having just had an A service we cant get the car to rev above 3000 rpm. In fact when driving down the dual carriage way we couldnt get the car above 70 mph! Even when trying to change down gear to overtake the engine braked the car as it refused to go over 3000 rpm. Even after we stopped and rev'd the engine from a standstill the engine just oscillated around 3.3-3.5 rpm and wouldn't go any further. Does this sound like an engine sensor problem or is it the dreaded MAF? Any ideas would be appreciated..

Could be MAF or a turbo related problem, as the car has been in bits i would suggest something hasn't been put back correctly>

Some of the A-class CDI's did not have a Air Mass (MAF) sensor and some did. It needs plugging in to a diagnosic computer.

Make sure the turbo pipes are fitted correctly.

Mine is a 2001 51 plate A170 CDI so I think it is a MAF version. Is this engine a turbo or is it normally aspirated? The transmission specialist have offered to take it back and stick it on their diagnostic computer so hopefully it'll show up the snag.
