Hi looking for info on the a class in terms of reliability/common issues and whether you guys have experience with these going wrong often.
Looking at 15-17 reg.
Found a good example of a 17 plate yesterday however I noticed the service history is printed on a single page of paper and the service book has no stamps, is only filled in with the details that correspond to the print out of service history. Is this normal? Or is this something to stay away from

thanks

Welcome, regarding the service history it's all held electronically these days, the service book doesn't normally exist never mind have stamps.
Dealers will often then run off a single page DSR summary, this is quite normal. Provided it states the services were done and in good time then nothing to worry about...in the 17 plate case there should have been 3, possible 4 depending on timing.

@johnlaidlaw thanks John, it has had 3 services with one due this July.
Thanks for clearing this up. I knew this was the case with my bmw but wasn’t sure if Mercedes were doing this too

15-17 is the last of the previous shape A, they can suffer from water leaks on the rear lights/vents which leads to wet rear footwells

Only to year 2016, it would have been modified from factory after that.

@Steve@Avantgarde hi Steve so would a 2016 potentially suffer this or was it already fixed by then?

My Daughter has one with no issues whatsoever, hers is a 58 A180 :)

I have personally heard the Renault engine is actually very good, and has been partially tweaked by Mercedes. But would be good to get an opinion on why you say you wouldn’t?

We had an A200d, 66 plate for three years, no problems, lovely car.
My only fault with it was that I often bumped my head when getting into the drivers seat and am only the “standard” 5’10”.

Have you had any other issues like a gone light? Or some type of flooding in the back? These are things I’ve been told about

Yes, hers is a October 2018 which is the facelift model but still has the same Renault engine. As I said she has had absolutely no issues with it at all. Whatever else Renault don't do they do make good engines :)

@AJD thanks for letting me know. Yeah I heard they’re apparently good and used in number of other vehicles. But there’s a lot of criticism around it so always worth an ask of opinion

They are actually a Renault based engine only so no doubt MB has had an input in the manufacture :)

@AJD yes that’s what I’ve heard so far. I will definitely look further into the car then as i have shortlisted one and really love it but worried about all the negativity

Right on the change point so its hard to say but most of the ones we have done have been 14 and 15 plate cars.
