My wife drives a A-Class 160 1998. We bought this second hand about a year ago. The car has been very reliable until now. The car starts fine and drives perfectly well for 15 - 20 mins, then with no warning it just cuts out. It then takes 15 - 20 mins before it will start again. This keeps on happening. The stealerships want a fortune to open the bonnet. Has anyone encountered this problem? There are no Haynes Manuals for the A-Class.

There is no warning on the dash when it cuts out. It turns over fine but won't fire!

Please help!

Why don't you try an independant MB specialist rather than a main Stealer.
He will find the fault and only charge you a fraction of the price you will be paying for the monkeys working in the main dealerships.

Will get the Mrs onto that in the morning, just hoped that I was not the only person to encounter this problem. Don't want to get ripped off.

The only problem I've encountered of a similar nature was condensation in the distributor cap. A replacement cap sorted it.

The car would start and travel for about 3/4 miles and then cut out. After 15/20mins would then start OK, presumable as the warmth created by the engine gradually warmed the distributor cap thus elininating the condensation.

Cheap fix if it solves the problem!

To my understanding, there is no distributer on this model. I have been told that it is electronic management? Please don't laugh if I am totaly wrong!!!
