A Class Service Schedule

When I bought my A Class the next service (an 'A') was showing as around 4500 miles away so I negotiated for a service prior to collection. That was duly done but I now notice that the next service due is showing as a 'C'. Being completely new to the world of Mercedes is that correct or should a 'B' service follow an A service?

Thanks.

No, with mercedes service system, called assyst or assyst plus, it can vary from a through to f+. it is so over complicated its untrue!! all you need to know is a or b is a small scope service and anything higher is a large scope service.

However when you have a dealer service they enter your cars a age and mileage into a mercedes system ess, electronic service system, and that comes up with a totally different service again!!

Make sure when you are serviced that they use Mobil 1 or other Mercedes recommended synthetic and that they set the car to allow for this fact. Goes about 50% further between services.

Check what they will be charging you for oil and if it is as excessive a price as most, you can take your own oil (buy at Costco or Halfords) and save a lot. Make sure you get the correct MB approved type and grade as in your handbook.

Thanks, Hawk.

I'm pleased to report that when I checked the service book after purchase the techncian has endorsed that synthetic oil has been used and the trip computer shows next service due in around 15,500 miles.

My plan for next years service is to take my own oil and, if they will stand for it, as many of the parts that will be used in the service as I should be able to get them at a good price.

Out of curiosity, what is the minimum that needs to be done to keep MobiloLife active? For instance, could I request that only the service is carried out and any extras (brake fluid change, for instance) is done elsewhere? Is it even worth doing main dealer servicing and keeping MobiloLife going as my plan at this early stage is to change this car at or around it's third birthday. That being the case goodwill payments (the best reason I can think of to use a main dealer following some interesting times with my Volvo) are not likely to be a major concern for a relatively new car still under manufacturers warranty and I shall always keep my AutoAid cover regardless.

Sorry but you need to read that thread again. It is not what is in the service book that matters. They have to reset the electronics to tell ASSYST that you have been serviced with synthetic oil. Then it will give you a variable service interval depending on how you drive, type of journey etc etc. If they don't; it won't and you will get a fixed interval of £10k miles.

I would definitely keep FullMBSH until at least 3 years old. Cost per mile is a bit over 2p per mile.

Thanks, Hawk, but as my trip computer shows over 15,000 miles now (a week after the service) to the next service does that not confirm that the appropriate oil was used and the appropriate reset made?

Thanks for the links to the threads - some reading for me for later this evening.

Ellsy Tanners was right, this is confusing!
