A Class starter

Hello, help please, is it possible to have a faulty starter motor even if it seems to be turning on the key?
A150 W169 suddenly developed starting problem.
It turns slowly and sometimes tries to fire then stops, sometimes it will start and then run perfectly on the journey.
Hand scanner - No faults, all lamps are normal no other problems.

I found the battery earth was hand loose but it still didnt start.
Anyway in desperation I put it in gear and rocked it and it then started perfectly!! I did exactly the same the next time and have the same result.

Battery Voltage 12.5 ignition off and 14.5 running. Once running it sits there ticking over perfectly. I have to suspect the starter even though it doesnt seem to actually jam up. Also possible the battery connection was causing problems?

Thanks for looking
