I've had my A-Class a month now. I noticed recently that when I switch the engine off there is a humming noise comming from something still running. It does this even if I've only reversed the car out of the garage. Any ideas as to what it is?

MY ML55 does this, and i have been told it is a ancillary cooling circulation pump, for engine.
we also have a A Class 2001 A170 and i have not heard it on that.

A Class Humming

My A160 LWB Auto also hums to itself when the engine is turned off. It only lasts a few seconds and I think it is the cooling fan shutting down but I have not checked if this actually the situation yet.

My 160 does it and its 99 so I would not concern yourself to much about this. The car has not given my any problems at all and must do about 35plus and I have always found the a service £100 and the b service about £350 good value for money and no more than many other cars. I have had to replace two near side anti roll bars during the first 2-3 years but have had no repeat. I was told it was a common fault.
