E-Class SE/2017/D200
Hi. Just bought an E-Class SE D200 which was registered in Feb 2017. I’m hopefully picking it up this week but would like to pick your brains on here if possible? Do all the e-class models have the feature where you can open the boot by moving your foot under a sensor? Mine doesn’t have Apple CarPlay. Is it much better than the standard software/features in the car? If so, is it possible to get it retro-fitted? Has anyone had this done if so? It seems to have so many features compared to my 2008 E-Class 220D Avantgarde. If anyone has the E-Class D200 from 2017 and wants to share any thoughts on it, that would be appreciated. Cheers. Martin

I don’t think wavy foot is standard (ai has the saloon so never checked the options)
Apple CarPlay is good, contact @Alfie of Comand Online - they’ll tell you what you can do and how much it will cost...

Cheers. I don’t know anyone who has CarPlay so not sure if it’s better than the stand Mercedes software or not.

E Class Estate E220d (2019)
Welcome. I have a 2019 220 but I think most things cover across.

Not all E class have ‘kick open’ boot, I think you need keyless entry feature for that. I have it and it is useful. Once you have your VIN check the card on a VIN checker and it will show you all the features the car has. There are so many configurable sit is not possible to say which car has what just from model and year.

Re Car Play - I think this is a very personal thing as some love it and some hate it. I have it really like it although most things can be done by the cars existing features. It used to be a bit of a pain plugging in the ISB cable all the time to activate but mow I use a CatPlay2Air dongle and it is so much easier and starts automatically. You can still use and combine both features of car and CarPlay at same time so get best of both worlds.

Enjoy your new car - I think mine is fantastic and this forum is a mine of very useful information if you get stuck.

Thanks for that. My car has keyless entry so I think I will have the boot foot opening. Is there an official name for that?!

A lot seems to have changed since my old car was new so I’m looking forward to the new tech.

Hopefully the standard media interface will be decent so not having CarPlay won’t be an issue. I’m an optimist.

If the car has COMAND, then Apple car play is a software update if not already present. The boot is part of the easy pack system in the estate of you have keyless entry. The W213 is an excellent car. Liked mine so much I ordered another :)

It has Audio 20 USB. Does that make it easier or harder to get CarPlay on it? Thanks for taking the time to help with this.

Welcome
I believe it's called a 'kick open boot' , or 'hands free access'

I don't know with Audio 20 I'm afraid, but I would guess if it is software on COMAND it will be the same on Audio 20 as it implies no additional hardware requirements.

I had issues with my COMAND not behaving itself when the car was about a year old, and took it to the dealer. The technician did a full update of the system, and when I collected the car, it had an updated UI on the COMAND with new icons etc. and Apple and Android car play systems appeared.

Actually, just looking at the latest brochure, and noticed that even on the latest model, Apple Car Play is not available with Audio 20, so you may be out of luck unfortunately.
