A long shot

I could be in compleatly the wrong place with this but hopefully someone can help me or at least point me in the right direction. My dad is tryng to fix a 1314 mercedes lorry and the key is locked in the ignition positon, just wondering if anyone would know anything about this on the off chance

If it's the one that you switch the engine off by standing on the exhaust brake I'm pretty sure you couldn't take the key out unless the engine was stopped. Maybe the fault is related to the fact that it thinks the engine is running?
