Hi,
I have to park my car near trees and have noticed that between car washes I get green mould growing along the top of the rubber seals running along the bottom of the windows, It also grows around the sunroof seals and along the drain channels exiting through the back of the tailgate.

Can anyone let me know how i can kill this with something so that it doesnt grow back as quickly and live in the drain channels?

Thanks
Toby

HI
try chopping the tree down,no seriously the problem is actually caused by the afids that are in the trees,as they munch away on the leaves there is a spillage of sap that falls down and sticks to anything it lands on,if the trees are sprayed to remove the afids, your problem is solved.
happy hunting:;)

The acid in sap also attacks the paintwork over time, I would park somewhere else or chop the tree down.

Hi All

How about a loose-fitting car cover or would it be possible to erect some form of hard cover to shelter your car under?

I assume from your description that your car is parked on public property so my second suggestion is impracticable?

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Vinegar 6-8% dissolves it and will not hurt the car

Toby,
If you love your car enough, go for Permagard finish on you body work.
It may not help with the green mould, but it will protect the paint from
tree sap.
See "www.permagard.info".

Wash it more often.
Polish it regularly and treat it with kindness.
DO NOT park under trees.
Or cover the car top whilst parked.

Steam cleaning

Mould is a living organism and it can be killed by intense heat. I had mould growing indoors on some paintwork due, probably, to the damp atmosphere. I treated the mould with a jet of steam (150 degrees) from a portable steam cleaner several weeks ago. The mould hasn't grown back and the paintwork is bright and clean. The same results are likely to be achieved on car paintwork.

Steam sounds like harsh treatment but I have found it can be used on most surfaces, including fabrics, without causing damage. However, it is always best to check before using it on really delicate fabrics.
