A140 Key/Fob Replacement/Programming

Hi

Ive just bought an A class - Classic, only got 1 key and the key only works in the ignition and not in any of the barrels in the doors, well it lets me lock the drivers door but cant unlock it. (I think the barrels need replacing, so its just parked in the garage until Im able to lock/unlock the car)

Now Ive done some research and found that all A - Classes come with remote central locking as standard and I think they are come with the 2 button flip type fob.

Can someone please tell me if its possible to re-program a used key fob that is of the same type (off ebay or something) in order for it to work with my car? This will save me getting the barrells replaced.

Anyone had a key/fob reprogrammed? Any recommendations apart from Mercedes themselves?

hi there i also have the same problem my remote central locking will not work i have replaced the batteries and still nothing if you have found any info on how to reprogramme a used key please could you let me know thank you. Dan

Dont buy a key of e,bay, they cant be re-coded, you can only buy one from merc,

yeah i was looking at a a140 being broke and i was going to purchase the key and steering lock will that be ok to re-programme to my car the reason is that when i bought the car it looked like a pitbull had been at the key

As sam cant be recoded no matter what your told mb only!, been looking at machine on ebay but does not do what seller claims.

I;ve bought a new fob off ebay for 20 quid. I'm going to try and get a new microswitch soldered onto the circuit of my old key then use the case from the new fob to house the repaired circuit board. this is because my old case is worn and the lock button has caved in (which cause the lock microswitch to break off)

These guys say they can do the repair for 10 quid so I'll go down there and let you know how it goes. If it works I save 180 quid, if not I'll sell the new fob on ebay.

Obviously if your case is in good condition it may be you have other issues with your circuit board, might still be worth getting the microswitches replaced though as its only a tenner?
