Hello everyone!

John here from Northern Ireland- wondering what you folks made of this deal:

A150 Classic SE in Horizon Blue metallic paint- 5 doors and 2007 early reg. with just 749 miles on the clock-£11995.

What do you guys make of that? I want to take it out on PCP and have a £130 p/m budget- so would this be good to buy over a brand new car?

What would you guys say the GFV will be? And- any advice? Can I ask for a discount on that AND expect any?

Thanks...

PS- Never had or expected a Merc before- dream car!!!

With MB:

Over 2 years GFV is approx 50%

Over 3 years GFV is approx 40%

Although this changes depending on the number of options the car has so only the dealer can give you a definitive answer on financing.

Go in this week (ie before the end of Aug) and deal hard. As I stated in a previous post, with the new reg coming in and sales targets to be met, salesmen will move quite a lot. Don't accept what he offers first though - a good target for you to aim for is £1000-1100 off screen price and a low APR on the finance. If you're lucky (or a good negotiator) try and get mats, 6 months VED and half a tank of petrol.

Good luck

Sounds as if this is an ex demonstrator car. These are good buys and value for money but the dealer might not have much margin left on the price, however don`t let that stop you from setting your price below his and haggling. However give it a good test drive and make sure you are happy with the ride of the A class on your roads, find a bit of the rough stuff and see how it handles it.

It's no different - in my experience, the salesman usually presents any cut in screen price as an increase in p/ex value anyway.

How to haggle:

1 - Let the dealer know you are looking at other cars.

2 - After a test drive, get the following info from him:

- Price for the new car.
- P/Ex value for your car (minus any outstanding finance if there is any). *Don't mention any extra cash*
- Monthly payments on the PCP.

3 - "OK, that's a good starting point but it's outside what I can afford...."

4 - He will ask what you can afford but only offer 75% of what you really can (ie additional deposit and montly repayment)

5 - He will then go and chat with his business manager (if he isn't already there) and come back with a better price (lower deposit, lower monthly charge).

5 - Ask if he can offer a better p/ex for the car or perhaps move a little on the cars price. Also mention if he can get close to what you can afford, you will buy before leaving the showroom.

6 - He will go back to the business manager and will come back with something close to what you can afford.

Good luck and don't forget you can always walk out of the showroom if you're not comfortable. The salesman is very friendly and yes you might feel a bit rotten turning his offer down after all his hard work but don't worry - he'll sell other cars to other punters.

Dont buy a classic. It s a pain to upagrade and has no air con. go for a classic Se at least.

You can pick up 3 door 2005 classic Se A150's for under £10k.
