Thanks

I was going to measurw how much I drain out, considering there is no dip stick and a choice of 2 autos, I had better stick to this method.
Thanks, for the info, it has been very helpful.

I changed the transmission oil and filter on my A160 recently.

I measured the quantity of oil removed and refilled the same amount but checked the level using a dipstick I bought from my local Merc dealer [part number 168589012100].

Hope this helps...

Dear Area51, or anyone else that can help,

My merc a160 auto 1999 has a problem where when it is cold all gear changing is fine, but when the car has warmed up, and when you put into reverse, the car jolts like it engaging but this does not stop it keeps jolting.

I took it to the garage and they told me it was the gear selector ( the part with the handle to chnage the gears), i got that changed with a reconditioned one and it cost me nearly £200 but this did not stop the problem.

The garage then said that it is most probably the tramission filter and oil, and that would cost another £90 plus labour, i decided not to get this done as the first time they had got it wrong.

can someone please tell me if they think it is the transmission filter and oil, and if so can someone please tell me how i can locate it (where do i find the part on the car) and any tips on how to change it (the part and oil)

The car has started to make other strange noisey under the gear selector and i think i should do this change ASAP.

Please someone help me with any information to solve this problem.

Thank You
