Hi

I have a A160, Clutch less manual. Just recently half the plastic guard inside the left hand side front wheel arch got ripped out. When that happened the ABS and the BAS/ESP light came on and the gear box seems to be playing up. When i take my foot off the accelerator to change gears it kicks into neutral and the when i accelerate again the gear kicks in. I have also noticed that when i have stopped and i put my foot on the accelerator to get moving again it revs to 4000rpm then the gear finally kicks in. I cant believe this happened just from ripping the plastic wheel arch guard out. If anyone could give me incite as to what is going on i would really appreciate it

Hi,

How did it get ripped out? What other damage has been done?

Inside the wheel arch you have a sensor going to the CV joint to measure how fast the wheel is turning so that the ECU can decide if the wheel has locked (or how fast it is turning) and can control the car in a skid (there is also a sensor to tell it which way the wheel is pointing).

This sensor may have disconnected and may be confusing the ECU.

Checked wheel arch

There was bit of the guard hanging down under the body. I reversed out of the driveway and it caught and ripped out
I checked inside the wheel arch and the cable going to the sensors have been cut. But i still would like to know what's up with the gear box or are these related

Most definately related..... All the sensors speak to the computer, the computer is now thinking that the left wheel has stopped and as it also controls the engine and gear change (measures the crank speed and compares with the wheel speed) it is now "clueless".

Re join the wires....

look at this site

I'm sure I've read there that there's some sort of control unit under the wing - that controls the solenoid activators for the gearchange...sorry, but I can't be more specific
